Shuttles are the most popular option for getting around. Let one of our professional drivers pick you up at the airport in a comfortable and spacious van for an easy introduction to Costa Rica. Walk out of the airport into a waiting van, and start relaxing and enjoying the views right away. The drive is approximately 2.5 – 3 hours, and the driver is happy to stop along the way for sightseeing, fruit stands, or lunch. In recent years, Costa Rica has considerably improved the route from the capital to the central Pacific, so you will enjoy smooth traveling along paved highways. 

Local Commercial Flights

The fastest way to get to Manuel Antonio from the San Jose international airport is to take a small plane flight on one of the local carriers, Sansa Airlines. The flight is only 25 minutes in the air and offers some spectacular views. Flights depart directly from SJO airport and land in Quepos, just a 15-minute drive from Vista Hermosa Estate. Luggage allowances are very limited, so plan on packing light. Check with our concierge about scheduling, as flight schedules can be tricky to match. These flights are fast and a fun way to see the country since they fly at a lower altitude.

Playa Espadilla Norte a.k.a. Playitas

Over a mile long, this beach is recognized as the crown jewel of Manuel Antonio. Vista Hermosa Estate has a private trail through the jungle that leads to the North end of this amazing beach, which is only about a 15-minute walk. 

 

Playa Espadilla Norte is the main beach located adjacent to Manuel Antonio National Park, an easy-to-access public beach with cost-friendly nearby parking. While the warm waves are wild enough for surfing, they are also calm enough to enjoy a good swim. On the sand, visitors can rent chairs and umbrellas. The South end of this beach has vendors who sell water bottles, jewelry, arts-and-crafts, and snow-cones – with convenient parasailing and surf lesson kiosks. The North end is much less crowded but with the same white sand and jungle surrounding. And sunsets over the water are nothing short of absolutely stunning.

About a 30-minute walk from Vista Hermosa, Biesanz Beach is off the beaten path and secluded. It lies at the end of a jungle trail that starts by the side of the road. The trail down to Biesanz Beach is a great place to test your senses while spotting wildlife; the trail has a few clearings between hillsides that allow for great wildlife spotting opportunities. You’ll have a great opportunity to spot howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and sloths. 

 

With its white sands and calm peaceful water, this is a great beach choice to simply relax. Vendors are also available for snacks/drinks, chair-umbrella rental, snorkel equipment rental, kayaks and stand-up paddleboard rental.
