December through April is considered the dry season (a.k.a. summer season), with mostly blue skies.
May & June represent the start of the wet season (a.k.a. green season) and will usually have late afternoon showers, as will July & August. October is considered the peak of the green season, usually the wettest month.
September & November are bridge months, not the peak green season but similar to it. These months will typically have less rain at the beginning of September and the end of November.

Best Time to Drive from The Airport
An ideal time to drive from Juan Santamaría International Airport into Manuel Antonio is during the day when you take advantage of the lush beauty of the scenic mountain road and seaside drive. Also, stretch and enjoy your first real taste of nature through the unique rest stop at the Rio Tarcoles Bridge (aka, The Croc Bridge) – where you are sure to enjoy watching crocodiles in their habitat. Several great restaurants are located at the halfway point en route to Manuel Antonio.

Shuttles are a popular option for travel. Let one of our professional drivers pick you up at the airport in a comfortable van for an easy introduction to your Costa Rica vacation. The drive is approximately 2.5 – 3 hours, and the driver is happy to stop along for sightseeing or food.
The driver will wait at the airport exit holding a sign with your name and a shuttle reserved with plenty of room for everyone and their luggage. We only hire shuttle services that have the comfiest air-conditioned vehicles.

Rent A Car
If you are familiar with the country and feel comfortable driving here, we can reserve a rental car for you at the airport. If this is your first time in Costa Rica, we can have a car dropped off at the house for you. The drive time from San Jose to Manuel Antonio is only about 2.5 to 3 hours. The country has considerably improved the route from the capital to the central Pacific, so you will enjoy smooth traveling along paved highways. You can use rentals daily or on a weekly basis during your Manuel Antonio stay.
Local Commercial Flights
The fastest method to get to the area from the San Jose International Airport is to take a domestic flight on one of the local carriers. The flight lasts only 25 minutes and offers some spectacular panoramic views. Flights depart directly from SJO airport and land in Quepos XQP (adjacent town to Manuel Antonio), just a 15-minute drive from Vista Hermosa Estate. These planes are limited to 12 passengers, so larger groups will have to take multiple planes. Luggage allowances are very limited, so plan on packing light. Check with our concierge about scheduling, as flight schedules can be tricky to match. These flights are a fun way to see the country since they fly at a lower altitude.

Private Charter Flights
Private charter flights are available to book from SJO to Quepos. The maximum capacity for each plane is 12 passengers. In the event that all seats are occupied, our dedicated concierge will arrange for a van to transport your luggage separately, as the estimated weight allowance is 175 pounds per person, inclusive of personal belongings and baggage. For larger groups such as 16 people, two planes will be required, but luggage should fit on each plane so no need to send a van. For groups of 20-24 passengers, a van will be required to transport luggage. Our concierge will arrange everything for you.
Is a Rental Car Needed?
If you’re deciding whether to invest in car rentals, everything in Manuel Antonio is located along one main road, so you probably won’t need a car. Taxis and taxi shuttles are abundant everywhere in Manuel Antonio. A local bus frequently runs back and forth on the main road.
